Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition with potentially dire consequences. But of course, you know how bad diabetes can get, and you probably also know that if you eat well and exercise regularly, you can dodge 90% or more of the harmful effects of Type 2 diabetes. In a lot of cases, you can live to a ripe old age in robust health, in spite of this potentially serious condition.

But unfortunately, there's a lot of low quality misinformation you have to sort through if you want to get good information on this whole "eating right" thing... it's practically rocket science these days, all complicated words and "don't eat this because..." explanations. In the end, we'll all probably end up eating rocks, just from being driven insane by all the rules.

The Benefits of Protein:

But one rule that never fades is that everybody needs protein. Protein is the slowest digesting type of macronutrient, and is an absolutely critical component of building and maintaining muscles. And even if you don't go pump iron and have no ambitions to build "guns" of steel and all the other hallmarks of body builders, you still have muscles. And while you most likely don't need as much protein as Arnold did in his prime, you do still need to keep what you do have healthy. And you will never do that without ingesting good, high quality proteins.

On Nuts: Oh, nuts! If you like nuts, you are probably in good health. Nuts contain all sorts of nutrients which will help you to be healthy and to stay strong, inspite of diabetes. Nuts have some of the highest levels of protein in any deliciously crunchy food. Well, insects are a little bit better, but you never know where they've been. Since nuts have those wonderful protective shells (which are great exercise to break), you can pop open a few and have a little snack. Try them with a little honey, and you will be doing wonders for your health... and it's pretty darn tasty, too!

Whole Egg Protein: Another great source of protein is eggs. Now, if you're vegan eggs are obviously off-limits. But if you're willing to make one exception for an animal product, eggs are the best contenders out there. Not only are they amazingly good for you, and tasty, they also keep well. If you don't feel like eating some eggs the week you get them (or even the month), it isn't usually an issue. Plus, you can side step all of the bad treatment of the chickens which leads many people to avoid them, if you can find someone who keeps their own birds. It's a good idea to use this wonderful resource if you can.

Whole eggs actually raises your good HDL cholesterol to a higher degree than LDL cholesterol, thereby improving your overall cholesterol ratio and blood chemistry.

Protein and Hunger: Eating enough protein helps prevent you from getting hungry again too soon. Protein is an important ingredient needed by the body to make dopamine, which is a chemical messenger in your brain that tells you when you are hungry or full. But keep in mind protein is not "unlimited"... even though some popular eating plans say you can "eat all the protein you want and still lose weight."
