The good thing (if there is a good thing), about having type 2 diabetes is the Diet for Type 2 diabetes; you get to eat more often! It is not a good thing to go without food for more than 5 waking hours without a meal or snack. You will need to avoid your blood sugar having wild swings by eating late or skipping meals. By keeping your appetite under control you will not have a surge in your glucose when you finally do have something in your stomach.

So starting with breakfast and eating snacks between your meals all day keeps your blood sugar levels stable. This can be a plus as it keeps your metabolism on a high, which in turn, burns more calories. It is noted that people that ate breakfast had a 35 - 50 percent lower chance in having metabolic problems such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. The plan is not to have your hunger build up so you're so ravenous that when you do eat, you may get into trouble with your blood sugar. So the diet for Type 2 diabetes is to keep some balance when eating your meals.

So the operative word here is balance. By eating more often is doesn't mean you can eat anything you want. Actually, the more vegetables eaten the better it is as they are an ideal food. They are low in fat and high in fibre and rich in many vitamins, minerals, and many nutrients. They also contain good sources of complex carbohydrates and lesser amounts of protein. Of course you would like to feel satisfied at the end of a meal, but the foods you would be eating should be balanced as well.

Some protein, carbohydrates and at least one fruit and vegetable is a good balance. The fruit is a good choice as a desert or with your breakfast. The diet for type 2 diabetes is a healthy diet, as you can bulk up your meal with lots of produce. If your are among the many that need to lose weight, it doesn't mean you have to cut out processed foods and sweets, it means it all comes down to portion size and balance, but you still have to decrease your caloric intake in order to lose weight.

A great habit for anyone of course is to trim the fat and that is exactly you should be doing. Make sure your cuts of meat are as fat free as possible. That means that crispy chicken skin comes off. Fat has twice the calories as carbohydrates and protein. Of course you can still have dairy products, but just keep it to the low-fat versions. A low- fat sour cream or salad dressing is better on your potatoes and bread than putting all that butter. There are many ways to make your food delicious without fat content. A chat with a nutritionalist can put it all together for you.
