Are You At Risk For Diabetes? Symptoms of Pre-Diabetes

Characteristics of a Pre-Diabetic Person

Pre-diabetic patients are often associated with the following characteristics:

Overweight or obeseVery inactive and have sedentary lifestylesFamily history of DiabetesHave trouble sleepingPoor dietary habits

Pre-diabetes is considered a silent epidemic right now in North America with over 57 million people suffering from Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes. Just under 6 million people don't know they have the disease so it is important that people realize how common the characteristics have become. Due to the apparent "normalcy" of these characteristics many people don't think they're at risk for this disease. The "it won't happen to me" mentality is a big reason why so many cases of Diabetes go undiagnosed each year. These characteristics are almost universal and if you or someone you know exhibits two or more of these signs then see your doctor or have them see their doctor immediately. It is important to realize that these characteristics can be nullified through simple lifestyle changes. Daily exercise and eating healthier meals can go a long way in preventing Diabetes or at least delaying it for as long as possible.

Pre-Diabetes Symptoms

Pre-Diabetes symptoms are simply lesser forms of the signs and symptoms of diabetes in women or the signs and symptoms of diabetes in men.

They are summarized as follows:

Constant thirstFrequent urinationConstant hungerConstant fatigue and feeling tiredWeight lossSlow healing sores, cuts, blistersDry, itchy rashesNumbness or tingling in extremitiesBlurry visionFrequent infections

Pre-diabetes symptoms can be considered to be any of the above symptoms at a low intensity. It is important for anyone that matches the characteristics to be dilligent in watching for the development of these symptoms.

Conclusion

Early Diabetes symptoms are more of a profile than they are a disease. The symptoms are often absent or to such a degree that they're ignored or assumed to be unrelated to actual Diabetes. The risk for development of diabetes can be increased through smoking, drinking, and high stress levels. The current epidemic of obesity can be correlated to the current epidemic of Diabetes so if you see several of the characteristics or symptoms in your life then you may wish to begin to exercise regularly and eat healthier in order to ward off the onset of full-blown Diabetes.

Pre-Diabetes can often be reversed or at least managed through proper dieting and regular exercise which are healthy lifestyle changes that can benefit all areas of your life and not just prevent Diabetes. If you feel you're at risk for developing Diabetes you should see your doctor and express your concerns immediately.
