How to Know If You Have Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease that has fast become one of the leading ailments if not the leading illness across the world. According to the International Diabetes Federation, it is estimated that over 250 million people are diabetic with roughly 6 to 8 million people developing the disease each year. To make matters worse, another 300 plus million find themselves at risk and many are not even aware that they are. Given that so many are affect year after year, it is important that we better understand this disease.

Sadly, many of us are our own worse enemy when it comes to protecting ourselves against diabetes. We carry on in sheer ignorance about what it is that leads to this life threatening illness and only become concern when we are the victim. Bad eating habits and little to no physical activity hasten the onset and before you know it you are not feeling well and wondering what's wrong. It could be signs of pre diabetes or even worse, full-blown diabetes.

Your body will give you clear warnings if you know what to look for. However if you have a family history of this ailment, being proactive with your doctor who can test you for diabetes will help detect sign and symptoms before the disease takes hold and develop. The thing about diabetes is that it will give you plenty of signals even without doctor testing.

You might have diabetes if:

You begin to experience frequent urges to urinateYou experience constant thirstYou lose weight unexpectedlyYou experience frequent weakness and fatigueYou notice blurred visionYou have dry or itchy skinYou have cuts, wounds, bruises or infections that take forever to healYou feel tingling or numbness in your hands, feet or legs

Any of these examples can indicate a need for you to be concern, yet it is amazing how so many people sort of brush off these symptoms. This is primarily due to the fact that you just don't know, and in this case, what you don't know can hurt or even kill you.
